Ex-Warhammer Dev wants Warhammer released as SP

I with him! He wants a single player version for the sake of history. Read more here :

Not in the slightest. The single player mode would just be the world (no NPCs/skills/etc) that you can move around at will. Not actually a playable "game", just a big empty map to explore.

Got it. I guess the words 'museum exhibiting much of what WAR was, so it won’t be forgotten completely' means he doesn't know about this server :?

Here is the best quote in the article :

“It won’t be WAR; that only exists with other players,” he stated frankly. “But it’s a double-clickable museum exhibiting much of what WAR was, so it won’t be forgotten completely. It’s an effort by all of us, as developers, to preserve a living record as our transient medium is created and destroyed. I can’t do this; I left behind the code when I left EA. But there are people inside EA who can easily make this happen.”

Sounds promising, with the caveat being EA's reputation of not giving a toss about the costumer.

Edit: I was thinking it's a promising development for the server too maybe? Imagine if they released all that back-end data too lol. It's a positive step in any respect.

My guess it would be a huge benefit to our server if we could get our dirty little hands on the data. Maybe. I'm not 100% sure as I don't know if this data would be convertable for MMO purpose . If it would, whole PvE part of the game would've be copy paste and give +30% of ready content for the server, doing a lot of work for them devs.

Decent comment I found on that story, food for thought:

"Volition released the source code for Freespace 2, leading to one of the greatest space combat games of all time surviving to this day, with what I can only say is one of the most dedicated modding communities ever.

id Software has a history of releasing the source code to their titles as well, which is why they always had such strong mod support.

There are plenty of devs who have released their old games for free, either as marketing tools or simply as acts of good will. Rockstar gave away their old GTA’s. EA (yes EA) even gave away the old C&C games. In fact, a fair number of studios have done this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_co ... s_freeware"

EA done it for C&C, why not for Warhammer?

There are some exeptions, but most titles in the list were about 10 years old when they went free...
But we may try anyway. Now... Who wants to ask EA to give us the source? :?

"EA yanked the cord on Warhammer Online’s servers (and then presumably bit it in half and bathed in its blood)"

sounds epic lol
