Mac-cient usable?

Postby imbakke » 16 December 2013, 16:03

Hi!

Just a quick question regarding the Mac-client that was available on retail WAR, is it possible to connect to this server with it?

Hmm, can you run the launcher from this server with wine? Then it may works...

hey guys I'm also interested in playing with the mac client. I downloaded your launcher but I guess I can't use it on my mac operating system without doing anything?

Has someone already tested it?

There might be one workaround. I can right click on my Warhammer symbol and look at the package contents and inside there are all the windows files because Mythic used Cider Wrapper (I guess thats it's name) to make the win files playable on mac. They did not write completely new code for Mac. Inside the Package contents I can browse through the files like I'm on a windows computer. Can I take your patcher and data.mvp to overwrite the files in there?

thx!

You could try to use wine on your mac system, if you don't know what it is, it basicly simulates the .exe that you're running windows, so you could maybe run the launcher...the best is just to google a bit arround to learn how to use wine.

ok thx I'll look into that... one last question: when using wine would I need the WAR PC client? Or would the crossover between Mac client and Win Launcher work? I guess you won't be able to answer that but maybe someone has done something similar before :)
thx

You'll need the Windows client as well.
Wine won't know what to do with the MacOSX client's .app format.

ok thx. does anyone maybe have the pc client? or can i take windows files which are embedded inside the mac client (there is a whole sub-folder inside the warhammer app with all the files because the app works by using the win-files with cider wrapper).

The MAC client was pretty much the PC client with a cider wrapper. If I remember correctly (it may have changed), the Window exe's were in the .app archive as well.

The good news is that performance (or lack thereof) under wine/crossover is pretty much identical to the cider-wrapped MAC version.

hey yea all the windows files are neatly packed inside the app, all the exes and stuff. all is in a standard installation directory like you have on a PC. it's amazing how the game would work that way actually. It should work if I copy those files out of there I guess :) I'll give it a try with wine and keep you guys informed.

thx so far.
