MAC Compatibility

Postby Hooley » 19 December 2013, 02:23

Hi all,

I was just wondering, is this Warhammer Online Private Server compatible with MAC? If so, is the setup process for this private server exactly the same?

Thank you,
Hooley

It depends on launcher, nothing to do with server. Better wait for a staff response about it.

Sounds like a plan.

Until a Mac-version of the client (hopefully) becomes available, you could try running WAR through Wine/Winebottler or PlayOnMac.

Download Wine here:
http://www.winehq.org

Download PlayOnMac here:
http://www.playonmac.com/en/

I've tried myself, but I'm no whizzkid when it comes to computers, so couldn't make it work - but maybe you have more luck (or skills) than me.

A guide on how to run WAR on Mac through some of these programs would be much appreciated, though - if someone has the know-how.

Indeed Specialpatrol, thanks for that insight. I want to log-in and start reporting some bugs, however, I've had no luck getting the client to successfully run on my MAC.

You're welcome. Just sorry I'm not able to post a usable guide. Was hoping someone with more tech-savvy than me might come to the rescue for us desperate Mac-users (luckily I also have the game on PC).

But for what it's worth, here's what I found out and did:
1: Download the Launcer (Patcher.exe + data.myp) from here.
2: Install Wine/Winebottler
3: Install XQuartz (X11) - Wine needs it to run - can be found here: http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/
4: Locate your WAR folder:
- Right click (or ctrl+click) on your WAR program
- choose "Show contents of package"
- Go Contents >> Resources >> transgaming >> c_drive >> Program Files >> Warhammer Online
5: Add the Patcher.exe file to the folder (maybe move warpath.exe to a backup folder)
6: Replace the existing data.myp with the one from the Launcher folder (save your old one in backup folder as well)
7: Right click the Patcher.exe file
8: Choose "Open in"
9: Choose "Wine" (browse, if necessary)

And that should theoretically load up WAR. At least so far as I could figure out.

It just didn't load up for me... But I had also been messing around with a lot of stuff, like PlayOnMac, trying to get it to work - and in the end my battery ran out and I fell asleep, and I haven't tried since. But maybe you have more luck. Let me know if you do!

EDIT: Just tried again, but still no luck. Found another guide (for playing Diablo II and StarCraft on Mac), that expands my own a little bit - but it still didn't work for me. Check it out here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1277412

Hey SpecialPatrol,

Can you please give me the link to the text highlighted green. There was no link in the original response.

That would be appreciated.

Arh, sorry if that was unclear - I simply meant the launcher from this site here.

There's a link to the newest one in this guide:
http://www.warhammer-server.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=368

If you're uncertain if you should get the 32-bit (x86) or the 64-bit (x64), then maybe simply download and try both.

Also, if you have WAR installed on your mac and have been running it from there, when the game was still up, then you might need to download the full PC version to successfully run it through Wine. At least I've had no success with simply replacing the patcher and data file in my existing WAR folder with the ones downloaded from here. You might have better luck, of course - but if not, then getting the full PC version might be the solution. There should be a link to it in the guide as well.

If you decide to get the full PC version, then there's also the option to install Parallels and run it through there - which should work. But it's a bit more extensive procedure.

i really dont get why people bother getting macs if they want to game.

have you tried dual booting a mac with windows? (if mac even lets you.)

i know that a PC lets you have win and mac dual booted.

if you can dual boot much less hassle then using a virtual box and you get the benefit of using all your hardware to play rather then having some lost to run the virtual space.

i have used both platforms and never liked macs.

sure some like the OS thats fine but they all use the same parts now you can buy a PC for much less and buy the OS and you still save money.
